The primary purpose of the Tuskegee University Supportive Services Program (Program) is to increase the total number of the minority firms participating in the Federal-aid highway program and the eventual self-sufficiency of minority firms. The Program provides to those DBE’s determined to be eligible for participation in the Federal-aid highway program in accordance with 49 CFR Parts 23 and 26 and have a work specialty related to the highway construction industry.

The Tuskegee University Transportation Supportive Services Program is located in the vicinity of the historical campus of the Tuskegee University. The Program’s services are directed at DBE’s located in the central and southeastern tier of the state.

The Program, in collaboration with area high schools provides a summer transportation institute for selected students, who have expressed an interest in the transportation industry as a career option. The summer institute exposes the students to the various modes of transportation systems utilized throughout the state for commercial purposes. The institute also, describes in detail the infrastructure of the highway system in the state and the importance of the construction industry. Students are transported to transportation modes (docks, airports, and rail sites) to obtain first hand knowledge of engineering principals and transportation systems.
