ALDOT's Assistant Chief Engineer for Policy and Planning - Don T. Arkle

 Don Arkle is ALDOT’s Assistant Chief Engineer for Policy and Planning. He graduated from Auburn University in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. All of Don’s 30 years in the engineering profession have been with ALDOT with 25 of those years in the Design Bureau. As an Assistant Chief Engineer, Don oversees the Bureaus of Transportation Planning and Modal Programs, County Transportation and Office Engineer. Don is actively involved in several AASHTO and TRB committees, including nearly 15 years on the Geometric Design Task Force which is responsible for producing the Green Book. In October 2006, Don was appointed by Governor Bob Riley to serve a five-year term on the Alabama Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors. Don is a past president of the Alabama Section of ITE and the Alabama Section of ASCE. Don has also served as the chairman of the Joint Engineers Council of Alabama. Don and his wife, Cindy, have four children. Don has been active in his community as well, serving on the Prattville Planning Commission and as Scoutmaster of Troop 111. Don and his family are members of Trinity United Methodist Church of Prattville.
